A well-drawn pair of George III painted Open armchairs. Decorated in original pale green and off-white paintwork, these chairs share similar design features with furniture made by William and John Linnell.
Raised on elegant stop fluted Square tapered legs with block feet, under a serpentine fluted frieze and carved paterae.
The elegant scrolled arm supports below C scrolled armrests joined to a carved and moulded back.
At the time of purchase, the chairs were found to be covered in two layers of later paintwork. A 19th-century covering of black paint was layered under 20th-century gold paint. After many months of painstaking restoration, the dry stripping was done by hand and the original paintwork was revealed and preserved.
