An exceptional Queen Anne walnut veneered mirror door Bureau cabinet. Raised on turned bun feet. This cabinet is of outstanding colour and patination. The fall reveals two banks of drawers on either side of shelved compartments above a sliding well with hidden secret drawers.
The upper section has shaped mirror doors behind which are open bookshelves with original oak slides.
The cabinet is decorated with double herringbone inlay to the drawers and doors. Consistent with the period, there are half-round mouldings to the drawer dividers and the fall surround.
For me, the standout feature of this cabinet is the untouched surface and colour of the Walnut. It has a quite wonderful feel and texture to the veneered surface, almost like old, worn leather. Quite possibly it has never been repolished since the day it was made.
The period brass plate handles are later replacements as are the turned bun feet.
