A rare and unusual mid 18th century George II mahogany bureau cabinet with brushing slide.
This unique bureau is obviously made by a cabinet maker of a certain age who had experience making earlier pieces from the Georgian period. Although dating at around 1750 one can easily imagine by design this being a George I walnut veneered example. The early engraved clasp hinges and modest oak fitted interior are a throwback to an earlier period.
The two arch panelled doors reveal an interior with shelves and a compartment for folio slides, sadly missing.
This bureau is incredibly heavy for such a small piece and is obviously made from the very best cuts of Cuban mahogany.
